Location
Haridwar is situated on the right side of the bank of the holy Ganga, and is the point where the river spreads over the northern plains.

About the city
Haridwar is an ancient pilgrimage site, held in reverence for centuries. It is believed that having a dip here in the holy river Ganga opens doors to salvation. Pilgrims flock here from all over the world to ceremonially bathe in the holy ganga.A visit to Haridwar is like stepping into a totally different world. Sprawling waters of Ganga, serene soft environment, enthralling mountains, saints performing prayers in ashrams, all form a picturesque panorama. Several temples and ashrams spot this town. .

Haridwar is also famous by the names of Gangadwar, Mokshadwar, Tapovan and Mayapuri. It is at Haridwar that the Ganga finally merges into the northern plains.

The Kumbh and the Ardh Kumbh melas also take place here every 12 th & 6th year.

Prime Attractions of Haridwar

Har Ki Pauri
This is one of the major ghat of Haridwar. This is one of the sacred places in Haridwar. Also known as the Brahma Kund, the ghat is scenic pleasure during evenings illuminated with diyas.

Kavand Mela
This mela falls in the month of July and August and is held ten days before Shivteras. This is the time when thousands of devotees flock to Haridwar in order to collect holy waters of river Ganga.

Chandi Devi
Situated on the top of the hills, Chanda Devi temple is situated on the top of a hills called the Neel Parvat. Constructed by the King of Kashmir, Suchat Singh, in 1929. Chanda Devi forms a popular shaktepethas in North India.

Sapt Rishi
About 5km from Haridwar, named after the seven rishis (sages) who prayed here for the good of humanity. It has mythological origin and it is said that Saptrishis (Seven sages) who had trapped the Ganga agreed to release the River on King Bhagirath's request, provided it split into seven streams.

Maya Devi Temple
It is an ancient temple of Maya Devi the Adhishtkatri deity of Haridwar, known as one of the Siddhapeethas. It is believed that the heart and navel of goddess Sati had fallen at this ancient saktipeeth, located to the east of Har-ki-Pauri.

Daksha Mahadev Temple
It is an ancient temple of Daksha Prajapati -father of goddess Mata Sati wife of lord Shiva. This temple is situated in South Kankhal town.
