Transportations :
Delhi is home to a burgeoning population. To meet the requirements
of such a large number of people special arrangements have been made by
the local government. The tourism and transportation department have
made many contributions so as to provide easy access into the city as
well the commutation. The means of transportation include road transport
facilities, metro-rail, railways and airlines operating in the city. The entire city is connected with various means of transportation which are operated by government as well as private operators. The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has earned quite a reputation for providing the commutation facilities. The city is the first in country to have CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) buses which indeed has reduced the pollution level to a great extent. The DTC buses provide easy access in the city but their number is still less compared to the population that travel in the city. Delhi Metro, the subway facility was introduced to reduce the traffic level on roads. The subway provides more comfortable and efficient means of transport but the service is limited to key regions only. The city has three main railway stations which are New Delhi Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway Station and Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station. The city is the main gateway of foreign tourists in the northern region. The city has two airports, domestic and an international one. Many international carriers provide for the entry into the capital and into the country. The Indira Gandhi International Airport as it is called is located about 20 kms from the city centre and transfer to the place is provided by the Delhi Transport Corporation. |
